Isle of Palms is closer to Charleston and has its own gated development, WIld Dunes. The beaches are great on both. The Isle of Palms is not a gated community, but rather a more "rustic" community with a long oceanfront road and numerous houses on either side. There is a pier, several restaurants, and a grocery store. Both Wild Dunes and I of P are very close to Charleston, SC. Kiawah is more isolated.
